Experiential Painting
Workshop with Marius von Brasch

The focus of this three-part workshop is equally on art and self-discovery, supporting a creative journey between the subconscious and the conscious mind.

This workshop is aimed at those with little or no painting experience as well as artists wishing to make a deeper connection with the intuitive side of their work. All that is required is a desire to explore ways of expression that are more meaningful to you as an individual, and an openness to whatever may arise from the process of painting in this way - the beauty and challenges of your own inner imagery and reality as well as that of others.
With the approach of Experiential Painting, the technical aspect of painting becomes a naturally supported part of that dialogue. The workshop will be of interest to anyone wanting an unconventional, spontaneous approach to unlocking their artistic and magical potential.

Marius is a painter and Gestalt-psychotherapist and this combined role is the result of a longstanding desire to understand a powerful driving force within him. Painting for him is a way of exploring and expressing this force and the resulting creative dialogue is a gateway to unexpected discoveries and resolutions on a personal, artistic and communal level. A desire to integrate and share both sides of his work inspired him to develop the Experiential Painting course which he has taught since opening the Studio for Creative Communication in 2000.

The tutorial is based on discovery, meditation and visualisation, group processes, technical advice, support and respect for your individual expression and healing. The number of participants will be limited in order to allow individual attention and support.
All the necessary materials are provided.

Marius von Brasch

Oedipus Diving

Marius von Brasch is co-director of AristiA and some of his work has been used for recent cover illustrations for AristiA's catalogue. Marius' work focusses on bridging inner and outer experiences and worlds.

The Magical Forest Press has now published Oedipus Diving, a series of 46 images painted and introduced by Marius von Brasch.

"The work developed into an exploration of childhood and family dynamics drawing upon my own experience as both painter and psychotherapist...
The title refers to Freud's controversial concept of the Oedipus complex as a crucial psychological process in the early stages of childhood, or, more specifically in this case, boyhood. This period raises questions about the nature of masculinity and is characterised by strong desire and devoted love, rivalry, jealousy and anxiety and a wish to 'rule' ones parents...

The child in this series is both the observer and the observed, observation taking place both inside and outside of his world. These shifting perspectives are amplified through the use of imagery belonging to the visual language of the subconscious mind. Oedipus Diving refers to elements shared by Sophocles' play and Freud's concept of the Oedipus complex...
Both myth and modern theory of psychosexual development raise questions around the genesis of masculinity and lead us to examine the concept and reality of gender images, their influence on power structures." (from the Introduction)
